Bäckerei Berger - Berger Bakery

Villach's Last True Baker

Baked goods have been made in the Berger Bakery in the heart of Villach for more than 40 years, and this family-run business is now the last bakery in the city that bakes fresh from scratch.

The motto of owner and master baker Christian Berger, who has run the family business since 2010, is: “What there is, there is; what’s out, is out.” They have no pre-baked or ready-to-bake goods, as this baker is committed to true from-scratch craftsmanship. From crusty Kaiser rolls to whole-grain baked goods or soft pretzels to poppy seed and nut specialities, the bakery’s repertoire is large.

Berger wins you over again and again with his new creations, which are based completely on the needs of the customers - and so you’ll also find low-carb bread or hamburger buns in the display case. The Berger Bakery is known well beyond the borders of the city for its “Kärntner Reindling.” This speciality is traditionally eaten at Easter and also with the special soup served at town festivals, but at Berger’s you can get the Reindling every day except Sundays and holidays. Quality that has been second to none for decades - Berger counts many of the KÜCHENKULT restaurants among his regular customers.

What Others Have to Say

  • “Here you are dealing with a bakery like the ones in storybooks - one which embraces tradition and craftsmanship. It is a matter of course that everything is baked fresh from regional ingredients. The Kärntner Reindling is particularly dear to master baker Berger, and tastes especially delicious. The Kaiser rolls are crusty and fresh, the poppy seed and nut pastries and the soft pretzels a hit.” - FALSTAFF Restaurant Guide
